The Certificate II in Hospitality is a pathway Hospitality students are taking as part of their VCE or VCAL program.  It provides the skills and knowledge required to work in the hospitality industry.  The first year gives you a broad range of skills to gain entery into the industry. Upon successful completion you will receive Certificate II in Hospitality.  Going into second year you complete units from Certificate II in Kitchen Operations that has a strong cooking 'back of house' focus. The first year of Hospitality focuses on food and beverages to customers, organising and preparing food, coffee making and workplace Hygiene. The second year, Kitchen Operations involves a range of kitchen functions and activities, and includes units such as methods of cookery, receiving and storing kitchen supplies and presenting food.

Students who wish to gain practical experience in cookery, front office management or food and beverage service, as well as an understanding of communication, health and safety and hygiene procedures in the hospitality industry. Our fully licensed restaurant, Food Lab, and associated production kitchen serve as practical classrooms so you can gain the skills to become job ready. People working in the trade industry are always in high demand and its one of the biggest employment sectors in the country. The course will provide you with hands-on skills to get you job ready in your hospitality trade. It's never been a better time to get a trade.

Possible job outcomes

This program will prepare students for employment in the hospitality industry in front of house, waiting and food service, cooking/catering, or in the retail food industry. This program also provides an ideal preparation for an apprenticeship or further study in the industry. Career opportunities could come up in restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafe's and coffee shops, plus organisations such as aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons and schools all require staff with hospitality skills.
